1967 Chevrolet Nova
Good$319,900
Originally conceived as a purpose-built Pro Touring machine, this 1967 Chevy II was engineered to excel in autocross, road course, and endurance events while remaining fully capable on the street. Built by the industry renowned experts at Detroit Speed Engineering and powered by a naturally aspirated Chevrolet LS7 V8 producing 670 horsepower, this car is an uncompromising approach to performance, engineering, and craftsmanship. Completed for its debut at the 2017 SEMA Show, it earned GM's Design Award for Best Chevrolet Sports Car while showcasing the level of design, fabrication, and attention to detail that define a world-class Pro Touring build. Finished in PPG Ferrari Rosso Corsa Red, the body has been extensively refined while preserving the character of Chevrolet's compact muscle car. Matte carbon fiber components including the hood, front spoiler, and deck lid reduce weight while providing visual contrast against the vibrant finish. Both bumpers have been carefully refabricated and tucked tightly against the body, while the windshield and rear glass have been flush mounted to create cleaner body lines and a more contemporary appearance. One-off billet door handles machined by DSE, recessed lock cylinders, remote-operated S550 Mustang mirrors, and a relocated passenger-side fuel filler further modernize the exterior. The rear wheel openings have been raised and both front and rear fenders modified to provide additional tire clearance while allowing the oversized rear wheels to be removed without deflating the tires, a thoughtful detail developed specifically for track use. Drip rails and vent windows have been eliminated for a cleaner profile, while removable rear quarter windows secured with quarter-turn fasteners offer additional weight savings when competition demands it. Riding on staggered 18" Forgeline GZ3R wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Rival S tires, the Chevy II delivers a purposeful stance, complemented by JW Speaker LED headlights and a concealed hitch receiver discreetly hidden behind the rear license plate. Power comes from a naturally aspirated Chevrolet LS7 V8 managed by a Holley Dominator engine management system. The engine features Brodix BR7 cylinder heads, a Bennett Racing camshaft, upgraded valvetrain components, and a one-off NASCAR-inspired carbon fiber cowl-induction intake system designed and fabricated by Detroit Speed. Tuned on an engine dyno, the combination produced a documented 671 horsepower and 594 lb-ft of torque. A Tremec T56 Magnum 6-speed manual transmission equipped with a McLeod clutch transfers power through a custom Dynotech driveshaft to a Detroit Speed-built Ford 9" rear axle with 3.70 gearing and a limited-slip differential. Detroit Speed-fabricated headers feed a beautifully integrated custom stainless-steel exhaust system, while Davis Technologies traction control provides sophisticated electronic wheel slip management. Even beneath the hood, mechanical oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges are mounted within the radiator closeout panel, allowing critical engine vitals to be verified independently of the digital instrumentation. The trunk includes mechanical fuel level and voltage gauges. The chassis is built almost entirely around Detroit Speed engineering, beginning with a complete front subframe and Quadralink rear suspension that replace the factory architecture with thoroughly modern geometry. Double-adjustable JRI coilover shocks with remote reservoirs are fitted at all four corners, complemented by Detroit Speed subframe connectors, a mini-tub conversion, and full-length jack rails integrated into the rocker panels that allow the car to be safely lifted anywhere along its sides during trackside wheel changes. A Detroit Speed power rack-and-pinion steering system delivers modern steering precision, while massive AP Racing disc brakes at all four corners provide exceptional stopping capability. Dual master cylinders with an adjustable balance bar allow precise brake bias tuning, and a line-lock parking brake further reinforces the car's competition-focused engineering. The interior reflects the same philosophy of purposeful functionality. Deeply bolstered Recaro bucket seats trimmed in black leather and suede are paired with Schroth 6-point harnesses and a custom-fabricated roll cage, while a tilt steering column supports a Sparco steering wheel ahead of a Holley EFI digital dash. Modern air conditioning, an Alpine Bluetooth-capable audio system, and a Racepak switch panel preserve everyday usability without compromising the car's motorsports focus. The removable center console can be exchanged for a portable fire extinguisher during competition, providing immediate access should the need arise, while a permanently installed Safecraft fire suppression system offers additional onboard protection. Hinged rear seat cushions provide convenient access to the fire suppression bottle beneath the passenger side, while the driver's side conceals a dedicated storage compartment. Additional electronics, including the Holley Dominator ECU and Davis Technologies traction control controller, are discreetly integrated beneath the dashboard and inside the glovebox, maintaining the interior's exceptionally clean appearance while preserving convenient service access. Recognized as a 2014 Goodguys Street Machine of the Year Finalist and recipient of GM's Design Award for Best Chevrolet Sports Car at the 2017 SEMA Show, this Chevy II is distinguished not simply by the quality of its components, but by how thoughtfully they have been integrated. Every modification serves a purpose, every system complements the next, and the result is an exceptionally cohesive Pro Touring machine that remains a benchmark for professionally engineered performance builds.
