The Avanti was Raymond Loewy's final major American automotive commission, designed in 40 days at a rented home in Palm Springs. Despite being rushed to market, it became one of the most advanced American cars of the era — fiberglass body, disc brakes standard, supercharged option producing 289+ hp, and a 0–60 time under 7 seconds. Andy Granatelli drove modified Avantis to 29 speed records at Bonneville in 1962.

The Studebaker Hawk family represents a decade of American GT car design that anticipated the personal luxury coupe by a decade. The 1953 Starliner hardtop is considered one of the most beautiful American cars of the postwar era. The Golden Hawk (1956–58) with its Packard V8 and supercharger, and the Gran Turismo Hawk (1962–64) with Brooks Stevens' refined interior, are the collector highlights.
