The Electra 225 was Buick's flagship full-size luxury car — the 'Deuce and a Quarter' nickname referencing its 225-inch overall length. Despite its luxury mission, the Nailhead V8 engines underneath provided genuine performance. The 1959 Electra's dramatic styling and the 1964–66 cars with the 425 Nailhead are the collector highlights of the model's first generation.
History
The Electra 225 launched in 1959 as the most luxurious Buick available, with standard V8 power and all available comfort options. The 1959's dramatic fins and massive chrome make it one of the most visually striking American cars of the tail-fin era. Through the early 1960s, the Electra maintained its position as a prestige automobile with surprising performance credentials courtesy of the 401 and 425 Nailhead V8.
The 1965 redesign produced cleaner, more formal styling that persisted through 1970. The 430 and 455 V8 replaced the Nailhead after 1966, providing smooth power in a supremely comfortable package. Convertibles from the Electra 225 line are particularly desirable — full-size Buick luxury with open-air motoring.
