1931 Ford Model A Blind Back 160 C

$25,000

1931 Ford Model A 160 C, Blind Back Sedan The known history on this rather rare Blind Back sedan goes back roughly 40 years. A BOD member of the Model A Restorers Club of America owned it and he sold it to a fellow in North Carolina, from there it went out to Washington state and in 2019 it came back east to CT and the current family. Upon getting the car here in CT, the owner dove into a rolling restoration. The owner was not one to baby his cars and only bring them out on the best of the best days and then only to shows, no, this guy drove his cars, so this car needed to be ready to fire up and drive to Cape Cod, Newport, or Hershey, or Michigan in a moments notice. One of the first things he did was install a 12V electrical system, alternator, LED brakes lights, turn signals then onto replacing the very worn engine with an engine from Snyder's along with a rebuilt 3 speed transmission also from Snyder's. (the odometer shows about 35,000 miles but the replacement engine probably has about 10K miles on it.) Knowing they'd be going on LONG drives, a Mitchell Overdrive unit was installed. Of course, all regular operating features such as the rod brakes, steering, tires (replaced with slightly oversized Lester whitewalls - 5.50-19's from Universal Vintage Tire - one has a bubble but should be under warranty with Universal) and bearings were attended to. The interior was fully replaced and some 20th century bits added like 12V chargers, reading lights and water temp gauge. In 2023 the owner fell ill and unfortunately by 2024 he had passed. His next step was going to be the paint, but that didn't happen. It still presents very well but upon close inspection, one will find flaws, nicks and chips, most noticeably a scrape along the passenger side roof line. If you know Model A's, one just doesn't hop in, tap the gas, turn the key and away you go. You set the timing, adjust the choke, turn the key, press the starter button with your foot and if all was done correctly, the car fires up. Sometimes a little adjustment is needed but the Ford flat head 4 cylinders are known to run even when filled with sand .. LOL They are tough engines and when tuned correctly run great. This one has been treated to the knowledge of someone who DROVE his cars. (Of course, I didn't pay attention to the fuel gauge and drove it out of gas, needing the widow to come out with a gas can to rescue me.. LOL) The car runs great, the Mitchell OD works as it should, the gauges all work (including the aux water temp gauge) , the lights all work, including the cowl lights that now act as blinkers, the headlights, two LED tail lights and a Brakelighter third LED brake light. Fog lights work, horn works, the wiper works but when you're driving to Hershey for a MAFCA event, the wiper isn't going to keep up with today's speeds, so RainX was always used instead of the wiper. The car is also equipped with chrome wrapped twin spares, a rear trunk, wind wings, side view mirrors, traffic light finder, and a spot light. An Autolite heater comes with the car but is not installed. When installed, it will keep all your passengers very toasty. The Blind Back is a rather rare Model A, depending on what source you choose between 3200 and 4500 were made and when you consider over 1 Million Model As were produced, that is a very small percentage - like .4% . Word has it less than 50 are registered here in the US today. The Blind Back is seen as sort of the "limo Model A", as it provides the back seat passengers with a modicum of privacy, which includes a rear shade that can be drawn. Most folks won't notice the small issues with this car and will draw a crowd at most cars n coffees/cruise nights. It won't be winning any awards at an AACA or Model A show but will hold it's own due to it's rarity. As this is a turn key, rare, running and driving automobile in very good condition, the family is asking $25,000 for it.
