1962 AMC Rambler 400 Cross Country Station Wagon
Excellent$39,900
The 1962 Rambler Classic 400 Cross Country station wagon was positioned as American Motors Corporation's premium mid-size family cruiser. It stood out for its innovative, weight-saving "Uni-Side" single-piece outer side rails and an advanced die-cast aluminum block 3.2L inline-six engine. As the top-tier trim, it blended utilitarian cargo space with upscale features like individually adjustable reclining front seats and distinctive exterior brightwork. AMC produced exactly 3,134 units of the top-of-the-line 400 Cross Country station wagon. This makes this a very exclusive model when considering AMC’s massive sales volume. This particular example was optioned in a gorgeous two-tone Baron Blue Metallic and Frost White exterior that looks stunning. The current owner purchased it from the 2nd owner in August of 2006 with just over 65,000 original miles. At this point it had started showing its age and the current owner knew he was going to do a complete restoration on it so he started acquiring NOS parts early on. In 2018 he decided to officially start the project and took the engine to Ron’s Machine for a complete rebuild. At the same time all of the major components were rebuilt including the Flash-o-Matic push button automatic transmission, the rear end, brakes, the starter and it was converted to a 12-volt system with a new alternator. During the process the chrome was all replated, the body was taken down to metal and all needed repairs were made with lead and the front fenders were replaced with genuine NOS parts. The interior was redone to factory specs with a gorgeous two-tone blue & white interior that looks amazing. The original AM radio was sent out and modified so that it now has FM as well an AUX input with a BT adapter, it also has new speakers and the original A/C system was replaced with a new Vintage Air system that is more efficient and runs on R-134a. The car was finished in 2019. In 2020 the cooling system was upgraded with an aluminum radiator to keep up with then newer A/C system. The end result is a #’s matching vehicle in better shape than the day it was sold new! It currently has 67,038 original miles of which less than 800 miles have been put on it since it was restored. Based on its condition and the current JD Power values we would appraise this beauty at $45,900.00. We are serious about finding a new home for it and priced it accordingly so if you like what you see we encourage you to contact us before it is too late!
