Built on Beetle mechanicals but wrapped in a distinctive forward-control van body, the Type 2 became an enduring symbol of 1960s and 70s youth culture while serving practically as camper, delivery van, and family transport worldwide.
History
The T1 "split-window" (1950–1967) is the most iconic generation, with its divided windshield and rounded, friendly styling defining the Bus's cultural image.
The T2 "bay-window" (1968–1979) introduced a single curved windshield and a slightly larger, more powerful engine, trading some of the T1's charm for improved practicality and safety.
