Specs, history, and buyer's guides for every collectible Tucker.
Preston Tucker's legendary "Tucker Torpedo" β one production year, 51 cars built, and one of the most innovative and controversial stories in American automotive history.
Conceived by entrepreneur Preston Tucker as a genuinely radical rethink of automotive safety and engineering, the Tucker 48 introduced features years ahead of the industry β a padded dashboard, a pop-out windshield designed to eject in a crash, a center-mounted third "Cyclops" headlight that turned with the steering, and a rear-mounted engine for a low, spacious interior. The company collapsed after fraud allegations (Tucker was later acquitted on all charges) and a hostile SEC investigation widely believed to have been influenced by competitive pressure from Detroit's established automakers, leaving just 51 cars built before production ended.
