Pontiac Bonneville

Pontiac's flagship — the 1957 fuel-injected convertible is one of the rarest cars of the decade.

The Bonneville was Pontiac's top-of-the-line model and a showcase for the brand's engineering ambitions. The 1957 Bonneville debuted as a limited-production fuel-injected convertible with 310 hp — only 630 were built, making it one of the rarest American production cars of the decade. Later Bonnevilles carried big-block V8s and Wide-Track proportions that defined Pontiac's performance image.

History

The Bonneville debuted in 1957 as a prestige halo car — fuel injection, 310 hp, and a $5,782 price tag that exceeded many luxury cars. Only 630 were built. The 1959 Bonneville introduced Pontiac's 'Wide-Track' stance and one of the most dramatic styling exercises in American automotive history. By the early 1960s, the Bonneville carried the 421 V8 and had become both a luxury and performance car.

The 1965–70 Bonneville with the 421 and later 428 Hi-Output V8 (376 hp) was a genuinely fast full-size car. Convertibles from this era are increasingly collected for their combination of size, power, and elegant styling. The nameplate continued until 2005, but the collector era firmly ends in 1970.
