Plymouth Satellite
The B-body's accessible face — GTX-level engines at Belvedere prices.
The Satellite was Plymouth's mid-range B-body intermediate, sitting above the Belvedere and below the GTX. The Sport Satellite and Satellite Sebring models offered strong performance options including the 440 and 426 HEMI, giving buyers GTX-level power in a less expensive package. The Road Runner and GTX overshadow it, making well-specified Satellites undervalued collector buys.
History
The Satellite debuted in 1965 as the performance-trim Belvedere, available with a 273 or 426 Street Wedge V8. The 1968 redesign created a more distinct identity, and the Sport Satellite could be ordered with 440 and HEMI engines while costing less than the GTX. The 1971–74 cars grew into a formal-roofed intermediate with the Sebring nameplate added; these later cars have less collector interest.
