The Road Runner was Plymouth's answer to buyers who wanted maximum performance at minimum cost. The 383 V8, heavy-duty suspension, and a Warner Bros. licensed 'beep beep' horn were standard. It sold over 44,000 units in its first year — far beyond projections — proving that stripping out luxury was exactly what performance buyers wanted.
History
Plymouth conceived the Road Runner as a stripper performance car that came with a big engine as standard equipment rather than an expensive option. Built on the B-body Belvedere platform, it offered a 383 standard and the 426 HEMI as a brutal upcharge. The 1969 model added a convertible and the 440+6 (Six-Pack) option. The 1970 Superbird — Plymouth's aero NASCAR homologation car — is a related model with its own extraordinary collector history.

B-body rust areas are well-known
Lower quarters at the wheel arches, trunk floor, floor pans, and lower A-pillars. All are common and addressable.
383 cars are affordable and plentiful
Base Road Runners with the 383 are the most available and most affordable. HEMI cars carry a 3–5× premium.
Superbird authentication is critical
The nose, wing attachment points, and rear window details must all be correct. Use the Superbird/Daytona registry.
