The 1970 Oldsmobile Rallye 350 was a budget muscle car built on a simple premise: take the Cutlass body, add the 350 V8, paint it Sebring Yellow with bold contrasting graphics, and sell it below the 4-4-2's price point. The result was a striking, capable performance car that appealed to younger buyers who wanted V8 excitement without the premium of the full 4-4-2 package. It was offered for one year only.
History
The Rallye 350 was conceived as Oldsmobile's answer to the Plymouth Road Runner — a low-cost muscle car built around maximum impact at minimum price. The Sebring Yellow paint was the only color option, paired with black hood and deck lid graphics, a blacked-out grille, and Rallye stripes. The W-45 350 V8 produced 310 hp with a four-barrel carburetor. Optional Rallye suspension and W-27 aluminum differential cover completed the package. Though only offered for 1970, the Rallye 350 sold well enough to validate the concept.
