Mercedes R107 SL
The SL that outlasted its era, remaining in production for eighteen years of understated luxury.
The R107 succeeded the "Pagoda" W113 SL and became one of Mercedes-Benz's longest-running models ever, offering a durable, well-engineered luxury convertible that evolved gradually across nearly two decades of production while retaining its fundamental design.
History
Launched in 1971 with six-cylinder and V8 engine options, the R107 continued largely unchanged in silhouette through 1989 — remarkable longevity for any production car.
It received progressive mechanical updates including larger V8 displacements and, eventually, more efficient fuel injection systems as emissions regulations tightened through the 1970s and 80s, keeping it competitive across a very long model life.
