Chrysler Hurst 300

One year, 485 cars β€” Hurst turned Chrysler's luxury flagship into a muscle car.

The 1970 Hurst 300 was a limited-edition collaboration between Chrysler and Hurst Performance that grafted the muscle car formula onto Chrysler's full-size 300 luxury coupe. Only 485 were built, all in white with gold stripes and a Hurst dual-gate automatic shifter. Under the hood sat the 440 TNT V8 β€” 375 hp of torque-rich full-size performance. It remains one of the most unusual and underappreciated muscle cars of the era.

History

Hurst Performance had established a reputation for collaborating with manufacturers on limited-edition muscle cars β€” the Hurst/Olds and the Hurst Barracuda being earlier examples. The 1970 Chrysler 300H (H for Hurst) took the 300's letter-series heritage and added the muscle car recipe: performance engine, Hurst shifter, bold graphics, and a sunroof. All 485 cars were white with gold stripes and the dual-gate 'His and Hers' shifter that allowed either console-mode or column-mode operation.

Notable Versions

1970 Hurst 300H

The only year and only configuration β€” all 485 were identical in white with gold graphics and the Hurst dual-gate.

What to Look for When Buying

Key inspection points from experienced collectors.

Only 485 were built β€” documentation is everything

The VIN, broadcast sheet, and Chrysler build records are essential. Fakes and clones from base 300 coupes are known to exist.

Full-size parts are readily available

The 440 engine and TorqueFlite transmission are well-supported. Hurst-specific parts (shifter, striping) require specialty suppliers.

Sunroof condition is critical

The factory sunroof is a unique feature of the 300H. Inspect the headliner and surrounding structure for water damage carefully.
