When the Letter Series became too expensive and exotic for mainstream buyers, Chrysler launched the non-letter 300 in 1962 as a performance-trimmed full-size car accessible to a broader market. The 440 TNT and the 300 Hurst limited edition are the highlights of the series, offering genuine muscle car performance in a comfortable full-size package.
History
The non-letter 300 occupied the performance segment of the full-size Chrysler lineup from 1962 through 1971. It could be ordered with V8 engines up to the 440 Magnum and, unlike the Letter Series, was available as a convertible through 1970. The 1970 300 Hurst edition — a limited-production special developed jointly with Hurst Performance — featured a white and gold paint scheme, Hurst Twin-Stick floor shifter with TorqueFlite, and 440 TNT engine.
