Chevrolet Suburban

The "Action Line" era Suburban — Chevrolet's three-door wagon-on-a-truck-chassis, the direct ancestor of every SUV that followed.

Sharing its platform and mechanicals with the GMC Suburban of the same era, the 1967–72 "Action Line" Chevrolet Suburban paired genuine truck-based capability with wagon-style passenger space, decades before "SUV" was a common term. It was Chevrolet's more common, work-truck-positioned counterpart to the more upscale GMC version, and remains the more affordable and more frequently seen of the two on the collector market today.

History

The Suburban nameplate dates back to 1935, but the 1967–72 Action Line generation is the one most associated with the classic three-door (two front doors plus a rear cargo door) body style before Chevrolet moved to a four-door layout starting with the following generation.

Built on the same C/K truck chassis as the contemporary C10 pickup, the Suburban offered removable middle and rear seats, making it genuinely useful as either a family hauler or a cargo vehicle — a flexibility that made it popular with large families, outdoorsmen, and fleet buyers alike.

Rust is the primary concern, especially in the rear cargo area

Check the rear door surround, floor pans, and rocker panels closely — these were work/family vehicles, rarely garaged.

Confirm original seating configuration is present

Middle and rear seats were frequently removed for cargo use and not always kept with the truck — missing seats affect both usability and value.

Parts overlap heavily with the C10/K10 pickup

Mechanical and drivetrain parts are readily available thanks to the shared platform with the C10 pickup, even though body panels are Suburban-specific.
