Chevrolet Caprice
Chevrolet's top-of-the-line full-size — the Impala's more luxurious sibling.
The Caprice debuted in 1965 as a luxury trim level on the Impala and became its own model in 1966. As Chevrolet's flagship full-size car, it offered plush interiors and a smooth ride while still accessing the full Chevrolet engine lineup including the 427 and 454. The 1966–70 Caprice with a big-block engine occupies a unique space: full-size luxury performance rarely matched by any other manufacturer.
History
General Motors introduced the Caprice as Chevrolet's answer to the personal luxury market dominated by Ford's Thunderbird and Buick's Riviera. From 1966 onward it occupied the top of the Chevrolet lineup. While its luxury positioning made it a family car for most buyers, the 427 and 454 V8 options transformed it into a boulevard bruiser. The 1971–76 Caprice grew larger still under federal safety mandates but remained the best-selling large car in America for much of the decade.

Rust is extensive on full-size cars
Full-size GM cars have large floor pans and trunk areas — inspect every panel carefully, especially on convertibles and cars stored outdoors.
Big-block cars are the collector choice
Base six-cylinder and small-block Caprices have limited collector interest. Seek 427 or 454 cars for value appreciation potential.
Parts interchange freely with Impala
Virtually all mechanical and most body parts interchange with Impala, keeping parts costs reasonable.
