The Biscayne was Chevrolet's entry-level full-size car, sitting below the Bel Air and Impala. Its appeal to performance enthusiasts was exactly what made it unappealing to regular buyers: bare-bones trim meant less weight. With Chevrolet's full engine lineup available — including the 409 and later the 427 — a Biscayne was one of the quickest large cars available from a factory dealer, and many were purchased new specifically for drag racing.
History
Introduced in 1958 alongside the Impala and Bel Air on GM's new X-body platform, the Biscayne was the utilitarian choice — rubber floor mats, minimal chrome, and basic seating. That simplicity made it a natural choice for performance buyers who wanted the big engine without paying for luxury trim. By the early 1960s, factory-prepared Biscaynes with the 409 were being campaigned on drag strips across the country. The 1966–72 Biscayne continued to offer V8 options up to the 427, remaining a practical performance platform even as the car itself became increasingly dated.

Performance versions are undervalued
A 409 or 427 Biscayne delivers similar performance to an Impala SS of the same spec at a lower collector price. Good value.
