The AMC Hornet SC 360 was a compact muscle car built around a simple premise: drop AMC's 360 V8 into the lightweight Hornet body. At roughly 3,000 lbs with a Go-Package that added a cold-air hood scoop and handling upgrades, it was one of the better power-to-weight ratios AMC offered. It went largely unnoticed at the time, which makes it a genuine sleeper collectible today.
History
AMC offered the SC 360 package on the Hornet SST two-door for 1971 only. The package centered on the 360 V8 in two states of tune — a 245 hp base version and a 285 hp four-barrel with dual exhausts — paired with the Go-Package handling upgrades and functional hood scoops. The Hornet's compact dimensions and relatively light weight made the combination genuinely quick. It was underappreciated in period and remains so today, making it an excellent value in the muscle car market.
